Moraine Lake
An azure lake in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at about 1,884 m.
About Moraine Lake
Moraine Lake's intense blue water and the jagged Valley of the Ten Peaks create one of Canada's most recognizable views. The lake is fed by snow and glacier melt and is usually at its fullest and most colourful from late June.
A brief history
The lake is entirely natural and has never been dammed or drained. Since 2023, Parks Canada has closed the access road to personal vehicles. Visitors arrive by Parks Canada shuttle, public transit, commercial operators, bike or on foot.
RV tips
- You can't drive your RV or car to the lake. Book a Parks Canada shuttle in advance.
- The road is typically open only in summer (roughly June to September).
- Camp at Lake Louise and take the shuttle from there.
Before you go: Hours, road conditions, campground availability, passes and fire bans change. Check the official source below, 511 Alberta and Alberta Fire Bans before you travel. National parks need a Parks Canada pass, and Kananaskis needs a Conservation Pass.
