Miette Hot Springs

Region: Rockies · Updated

Outdoor hot pools in the Fiddle River valley between Hinton and Jasper.

About Miette Hot Springs

Miette's hot pools sit in a mountain valley in Jasper National Park, with views up the Fiddle River. The springs are among the hottest in the Canadian Rockies, and the water is cooled for the pools.

A brief history

In the 1910s the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway planned a grand resort here that was never built. In 1934 the federal government began building an access road and pool as a Great Depression relief project, completed in 1938. Ruins of the 1938 pool still sit below the springs.

RV tips

  • The access road off Highway 16 is narrow and winding. Check Parks Canada advice for larger RVs and trailers, and consider leaving the trailer at camp.
  • The pools are seasonal. Check opening dates.
  • A Parks Canada pass is required.

Before you go: Hours, road conditions, campground availability, passes and fire bans change. Check the official source below, 511 Alberta and Alberta Fire Bans before you travel. National parks need a Parks Canada pass, and Kananaskis needs a Conservation Pass.
