Royal Alberta Museum

Region: Edmonton area · Updated

Western Canada's largest museum, covering Alberta's natural and human history.

About Royal Alberta Museum

In downtown Edmonton, the Royal Alberta Museum has huge galleries on Alberta's natural and cultural history, a children's gallery and a live bug room. It's a great rainy-day stop.

A brief history

The Government of Alberta established it in December 1967 as the Provincial Museum of Alberta. It received royal patronage and was renamed the Royal Alberta Museum in 2005. The new downtown building opened to the public in October 2018.

RV tips

  • Downtown parking isn't designed for RVs. Visit by tow vehicle or transit from a city campground.

Before you go: Hours, road conditions, campground availability, passes and fire bans change. Check the official source below, 511 Alberta and Alberta Fire Bans before you travel. National parks need a Parks Canada pass, and Kananaskis needs a Conservation Pass.
